The first piece chosen is for the combined orchestras, except for the beginner students. Dance Scenario by Del Borgo is a fun piece that incorporates many string techniques, including pizzicato, double stops, hooked bows, tremolos, quadruple stops, the key of C major, and everyone has the melody at some point. It is a great piece to review concepts and note reading. There is even a slower section where the upper strings can work on developing vibrato. The video is a great recording to listen to and learn the overall concept of the song, and how individual parts fit together both rhythmically and harmonically.
